Thomas McIlworth was a Scottish portrait painter who immigrated to New York, circa 1757. He was in New York City from 1757-1762, then moved to Schenectady, New York where he lived until 1767. In that year he went to Montreal and is is thought to have died in the winter of 1769/70. His sitters included many prominent landowners of NYC, the Hudson Valley, and the Albany area.
